Here at Generation Q Magazine, we’re all about community. We know that without our community, we would not still be here, against all the odds, continuing to play with you. You make it fun for us to do what we do: playing with fabric and sharing our findings and creativity with you.
That’s what our first book is all about: community and creativity. Stitch ‘n Swap is a collection of fun, stylish sewn projects designed to be made quickly and shared completely. This book brings together some of the best designing talent in our q-niverse today, including some of our very own GenQ peeps with whom we snuggle with every day.
It’s not just about the projects, though. Stitch ‘n Swap is designed to be a resource for anyone interested in hosting or participating in a swap. Whether online or in real time, swaps are a perfect way to foster your circle of like-minded stitchers. A good swap can challenge you to stretch your creative muscles and serves as an easy lesson to prove that giving and receiving are delightful experiences.
Take the ideas from this book and make them your own. Entice others to join you in a creative swap. Then you and your friends can conquer your world.
Oh, and celebrate with us, as we launch a series of blog parties about Stitch ‘n Swap with many of the designers who contributed to the book. You’ll see a list below…don’t hesitate to visit your faves, or find a new designer you hadn’t heard about before! And of course, there will be giveaways. Details on our fellow blog party participants and the giveaway scheme are below.
Next week, as the parties roll out, we’ll have another perfect stitch-and-swap project for you. Our very own Scott Hansen made two different sets of place mats and a table runner for the book. Space only allowed one to be published, so we snapped up the other version to share with you. Here’s a tease: It’s a table runner named Chow Time and it’s the perfect complement to almost every casual table setting.

Looks like a great book!

The best thing I ever received in a craft swap was a handmade Geocaching Log book. Each page was hand written and embossed. It is beautiful!
I have never participated in a swap because I have no skills, but I love seeing what other people do. I do have skills, but I can’t stitch a straight line and as much as I love to make things even my grandchildren cann see the flaws.
Thanks for the chance to win! I have participated in several swaps and received lots of great items, but I think my favorite was a fabric basket that I use for my scraps.
I’ve never done any swap before! It sounds like so much fun! The reason why I’ve never done it is because I have never found it though, but I am following more blogs now so hopefully sometime this year I will be able to participate in a swap!
It looks like an interesting book. I’ve not participated in this type of swap.
Thanks for the opportunity
COMMENT #8
Looks like a fun book!
I gave up on blind swaps because of the etiquette issue- not being thanked for things made is very sad! Now I make and swap with my online friends. At least I know they are appreciated!
I participated in a pin cushion swap once. Mine went to New Zealand!

I have never participated in a swap but have exchanged many handmade gifts with crafty friends and family. One of my favorites was a star table topper and another was a set of napkins. Beautiful and practical!

I am participating in a swap at the moment. We are swapping minis and I’m super excited.

I’ve never participated in a swap, but I think that I’d like to now that I’m a more confident quilter. Thanks for the chance to win your book. It looks tempting.

I would love to win it!!
Looking forward to the blog party. I haven’t participated in a swap – still learning here – but love to see all the creativity.
I have participated in 6 swaps. I received several small pins from around the world but mostly it is some of the friends I have made that will last for a longtime!
I am currently awaiting for the blocks to arrive from the last swap. Due to the cost of postage in Canada I probably won’t be participating in any more. I have enjoyed these swaps even though there were a few who waited til the last moment to advise that they wouldn’t be able to fill their commitment. Sadly, Most of us had already mailed our blocks!
I have participated in two swaps – a mug rug swap and a cushion cover swap. The mug rug swap was great. The cushion cover swap was terrible (so the less said about that one the better!).
I have participated in a couple of swaps. I would love to read this book!

What a great idea for a book! I am in a quilt guild and am helping plan a swap. My past experience has been to participate and this is the first time to be involved in the planning. I don’t want to sound over zealous but I NEED this book! Thanks, Virginia from California.
I have never participated in a swap yet but it sound a super idea, I’m sure I know people who love to do this, the book would be really good way to get started and have lots of fun. Thanks for the opportunity to win.
I’ve never participated in a swap, but I would love to one day. This book could be useful for inspiration for gift giving though!
I participated in only one swap. Sadly, it was at a time when my health took a header and I was quite late in completing my assignment. When the person making something for me never actually did, it was easy for me to be understanding, as my swap partner had been. So, while it wasn’t a huge success in a crafty way, I learned a few things from it. For me, a swap with a deadline is tough, and I might be better at those events in which you bring something and then take something home, so that if I haven’t finished, no one else has to wait.
Oh, I love to participate in swaps. There are lots of things that I love, fabrics, sweets, notions, pincushions, but the best gift is the thank-you comment. Thanks for this giveaway
COMMENT #34
I’ve only swapped once and my partner never bothered to thank me though I know she received her parcel – maybe she didn’t like it!!
I have participated in many swaps and enjoyed them all. I’ve had lots of swappers spoil me and go a bit overboard with the extras and goodies. I try to do the same. I like to always make an extra small item to go with the larger item and so I will always make sure I make enough time to make something special. I can’t name one thing that stands out as the best item received, I have been spoiled many times.
I’ve been in one swap, and the best thing my partner sent was a charm pack… (The oversized strawberry pincushion was amazing, too!)

My first swap was disappointing but got brave enough to do an online swap just last month. Was thrilled with the projects from my partner. Beautifully sewn and will be keeping to use and enjoy. Apparently she liked what I made also so all was good. Before the second swap we were asked about our level of sewing and other questions and I think that really helped with the swap more than anything. We were also able to email each other about any likes and dislikes. Will do another swap when time allows. Thank you for the chance to win this super book.

I am a newbie and have not participated in a swap yet. Would like to, but want to get better first so the other person won’t be let down by my lack of experience. 🙂

I have never been part of a swap, but after seeing this post, I will make it a goal of mine to host one. It’s funny, I have crafted all my life. I have given away so many of my creations as gifts, yet I have not found myself in a group of other crafters and sewists. I have also taught or led creative classes, yet we have not swapped. I’m baffled by this, but I am inspired to make it happen! Thanks so much. I look forward to seeing more of the book.
Can’t wait to own this one! Best thing I’ve rec’d in a swap is a really large pin cushion that never falls off my table!

I have been quilting for almost four years. We did a swap of fabric for a Christmas log cabin quilt. I had so much fun. Since then I have not been able to participate in the guild meetings due to back surgeries and a few strokes. I’m still quilting, but I would LOVE to participate in an online swap of fabric, patterns, ideas. I have no idea how to do that, but I have LOTS of Batiks to swap! Any ideas! I follow Rose Hughes blog, have all of her books, and she mentioned this on her blog. I’m ready….
Happy Quilting!
Susan
COMMENT #210
I’m looking forward to reading the book!
Since I am a regular follower of Anne of Springleaf (and own some of her patterns) when she mentioned this book, I was in! Anything that Anne does will be done well. I love the idea of little projects of swaps–I just finished a big swap of 50+ Cross-X blocks over several months. One of my favorite little gifts to give (can I tell this part?) was a sweet little earbud pouch with my favorite sushi fabric that I read about on someone else’s swap!
Thanks for hosting this giveaway!

I’ve never participated in a swap so therefore haven’t received any interesting things. It sounds like a fun thing tho. The book that is coming out sounds like it’s got some pretty good things to make. I really like things that are doable in a reasonable amount of time. Thanks for a chance to win.

Looks like some fun, fun small project sewing. Thanks for the opportunity.

I have only participated in fabric charm swaps. That was fun, but swapping projects sounds like great fun. Will have to organize one.
My e-mail is what I do, make one and give one away.. I did not know of this magazine, I only see what is at our fabric store here in rural Montana. it would be cool to win this and share with my sewing friends,, we are all looking for small projects to sew , we do quilts , but like to sew other projects too.
My favorite swap was in 1999 when I swapped fabrics for a Millineum Quilt. I now have a quilt that contains exactly 2000 different pieces of fabric from around the world. I got it done just before the new year when everyone was afraid all the computers would crash. The book looks like a fun one.
Probably the coolest swap I was ever in was a block swap where we signed out blocks and each participant got enough blocks to make a quilt. I love my signature quilt. http://blog.geneblack.com/2010/01/it-is-bigger-than-i-thought.html
COMMENT #244
The swaps I have been involved in fabric swaps (i.e. charm squares, jelly roll strips, fat quarters) but never in a craft swap. I have received some beautiful fabrics over the years… But a craft swap sounds marvelous and I would not mind receiving some of those placemats or the table runner designed by Scott Hansen of Blue Nickel Studios.
I just started quilting. How do I swap?!
What a great giveaway! I love books! I keep them around to motivate and of course to get new projects up onto my machine!

I have yet to participate in a swap so I am very curious about the process, designs, and insights. Also, I have yet to win anything so I am not very hopeful I’ll be one of the winners but I still do have some hope. 🙂 The book looks to be quite interesting, judging by the cover alone!
I have been involved in many swaps over the years. I found it stretches my skills and my creativity. You only had to make one block, so challenge yourself!
Best ever was a pouch out of HST that I use everyday!
