Quilt of the Week

Barb showed this gem on Flickr this week.  Made for a friend who thought she was having a girl but was surprised with a boy’s arrival instead, this quilt was a quick and stylish option for the last minute switch of the stork.  But really, what girl wouldn’t also love this.  The quilting is simple and stylish, and the offset “eye-spy” portion is great for kids to have fun identifying things without being a messy barrage of images, not that there is anything wrong with a busy, boisterous quilt. Bonus points for this quilt are that she needed something quick and this fit the bill. We imagine there is a more complex ‘pinker’ quilt in the wings waiting for the next accurately predicted baby girl.

And make sure you check out these three quilts that inspired Barb from last year by DarciNetti, and Svetlana. They are worth a mention as well!

Blog Post of the Week

Marta, Marta, Marta……what a great quilt she has here.  Adapted from a pattern by the ever so talented Camille Roskelley,  this quilt for a boy is just right.  We love the taupey-grey background solid and even though you see just a hint of the Minky back, we can feel the cuddle-up-bedtime-story reading feeling already.  (Where was Minky when most of our kids were little?!!)  Little boy prints in soft but not pastel colors of bugs, snails, and snakes. A nice juxtaposition of the creepy and the cuddle. Marta’s post also comes with great close-ups of the piecing, basting, quilting, and love that went into this great quilt. We love her boxy all-over stipple quilting. Bravo, Marta, well done!!
