Saturday Special: Gnomes and Bugs

Blog Post of the Week
Okay so how many quilt posts do you know that list Armageddon, fire, garden gnomes, and fabric in the same tag line? Not many I know. But the mysterious blogger at I Like String has done it in her/his post here.

Tents of Armageddon - Front

What do I love about this post? It is pretty simple and not really wordy, but I love the complex fiber burn-test chart at the beginning for starters. It seems to me like that would be something frameable for any fiber artist, especially you mixed-media types. And the quilts are great too. Two finished quilts with backs just as interesting as the fronts. But what really hooked me were the garden gnomes with the quilts. What gnomes you say? Yeah, I hardly noticed them either until I read through to the VERY end of the post. And suddenly, the burn-test flow chart that fascinated me disappeared from my mind. The quilt that originally had me look at the post, gone. All I can think about now are those gnomes. Why? Where? Will they stay?

Quilt of the Week

This quilt caught my eye just for the sheer color and activity I saw when cruising through the Fresh Modern Quilts page over on Flickr and then I looked closer and noticed that the activity was actually even more intense than I thought. Check out the black and white prints and get ready to start itching!! Such a fun quilt for a kid or anyone really, really into bugs!

Here is more about the project straight from Riel.
