Saturday Special: Beauty And The Bomb

Post of the Week:

Our friend Luke Haynes is never conventional in his approach to quilting. Never. Here is his latest adventure in quilting. And gasp! He didn’t even use the newest lines of fabric by the most popular designers. Wait! He didn’t even use ANY “fabric” this time. This 3-D quilt is all created with knitted “patches”! Recycled knitted patches to boot! And Scott particularly likes Luke’s statement in the post about getting a T-shirt that reads, “Hi, I’m Luke and I’m a heterosexual quilter.” We love Luke’s bold approach to our favorite subject, and will always be a big fan!

Quilt of the Week:

Krista Withers,  local Seattle longarm quilter and general incredible quilter in general, recently posted this fabulous quilt on her Flickr pages, and we were so glad to discover it there!

Here’s what she told us about it in a Flickr message:

“The quilt belongs to me. Many of the blocks were made by the amazing girls from an on-line Flickr bee called Fresh Modern Bee 2. I sent out each person fabrics from one colorway, with linen for the background. I made a few inspiration galleries and encouraged people to just be creative and I loosely specified I’d like circles. Once I received the blocks back, I framed many of them and began piecing the puzzle together! It’s not bound yet, but it will be hanging in October at the Island Quilter on Vashon, where I’ll be having a show.”

Here’s what we love about it…well, just a little bit of what we love, because there so much that we love!  We love how a virtual quilt village made this quilt and how Krista arranged the whole set-up. We adore the random strips of prints amidst the grey background.  We are totally madly in love with the quilting! Wonderful job, Krista! If you are a Seattle-ite, you need to hire this lady! And be sure to check out her show at Island Quilters  (opening night is October 5th, 6-9 pm)! We bet you’ll be seeing even more cool stuff.
