Playdate: Gather in the Square by Rhonda Jordan

Our Spring 2013 issue (now in shops and on newsstands) has a buncha project goodness, and we’d like to share one more with you today:  Gather in the Square by Rhonda Jordan of Tabby Fabric & Studio in Beaufort, South Carolina.

This simple, but subtly textured, design (pictured above) was inspired by the shape studies of Bauhaus artist and teacher Josef Albers. Rhonda studied extensively at Savannah College of Art & Design, and loves continuing to explore modern art masters in her quilt designs. Just follow this link to get the pattern for Gather in the Square.

You can also read more about Rhonda’s modern shop, Tabby Fabric & Studio, in the Spring 2013 issue. It’s brought a freshness to a locale steeped in quilt and fabric tradition, and it’s been a bridge for existing traditional-style quilters to get to know modern style and younger quilters.

(P.S. Melissa got to meet Rhonda in person at the recent QuiltCon in Austin, and she is a dynamo. We want whatever vitamins she’s taking!)

At first I thought the inside squares got their texture from quilting – until I clicked on the photo & could see them up close. Very cool effect!! Thanks for sharing.
