Cuts: Say Hi to Color

jake • October 19, 2011 • 12 Comments

So, it’s that time of the month again and we’re craving thread–the kind delivered to us by our wonderful fabric manufacturers. Today we’re featuring a couple from Moda, one from Anthology and one from Robert Kaufman. All are delightful and worthy of your time.

Terrain by Kate Spain for Moda

She’s been designing for Moda for three years now and Kate’s stuff just keeps getting better and better. Jake was at Pacific International Quilt Festival last weekend (post on that tomorrow) and being on a tight budget, was hard-pressed to find anything she wanted to dish the dough out for. Until she wandered into a booth only to find ONE jellyroll of Terrain sitting there, calling out to her wallet. It was love at first sight because the colors in person—deep purples, blueberry, raspberry and greens splashed with an orange here and there—are so incredibly beautiful.

Bet you’ll feel the same way. Oh, and Fat Quarter Shop has an exclusive Designer Select bundle of fats featuring a dozen prints from Terrain and three solids, selected by Kate herself. It’s an exclusive and runs $45.

Flora by Lauren + Jessi Jung for Moda

Another one out of the park for us! This elegant, rich collection created by the mother-daughter team of Lauren (daughter) and Jessi (mom) is stunning. The patterns are classic but the colors are completely today. Inspired by English tea parties and secret gardens, Florapromises to add depth and interest to any project you can dream up.

Besides the quilts you can birth from these, think about clothing in a big way. If you are blessed with warm coloring that tomato red is gonna look hot on you! It’s so nice to see family working together in this biz and it’s happening more and more. Thank God for us that talent runs in these families!

Pure Organics by Robert Kaufman Fabrics

This collection of 21 solids is made from certified organic cotton that are dyed with low-impact dyes. And in case you’re a doubting Thomas, or just curious, Kaufman posts the certifications here for all of their organic collections.

But these solids go beyond being earth-friendly. Their hand and their colors are gorgeous and the line has recently expanded from the initial 15 colors, which tell us that we’re being way more green in our obsessions.

Rendezvous by Khristian Howell for Anthology Fabrics

Inspired by today’s fashion trends, designer Khristian offers her take on hot. Aqua, charcoal, blood red and cream will march your quilts right down the runway where they’ll stand as proud as any D&G dress out there.

We especially like the tone-on-tone rose and sticks prints in the cream colorway. They both look like they were colored by angels and we can see them becoming awesome backgrounds for someone’s clever applique. Stay tuned for more from Anthology Fabrics. They are a newer fabric house, and they are catering to our newer sensibilities in a big way.

Oh, I have to do it. Feel free to groan. Ahem! Terrain by Spain stays mainly with the grain. (I know it doesn’t, but I couldn’t get it out of my head until I typed it!) It’s just a lovely line. And how much do I love Flora?! Ack! And Kaufman, too??? Rendezvous is just want I need – I’m trying to get together a lot of pretty grays for a specific project. Could some sugar daddy send me one of each? Pretty please?
