The Tunic Bible
Sarah Gunn and Julie Starr
C&T Publishing
112 pages; $29.95, softcover book; $20.99, e-book
Top Seven Reasons The Tunic Bible rocks it
1) Sarah and Julie did the homework for us. There’s a wee bit o’history, there’s a lot o’technique, and on page 45 there are instructions for making a muslin with references for how to do it.
2) The options are endless! From fabric choices to collars and shape. We get to pick and choose the shapes, necklines, length, and shape.
3) The tunic lends itself to any body shape and type with some adjustment (see #1 above.)
4) The tunic has the possibility of being slightly more than a tunic! A longer shirt to pair with leggings or jeans; a short dress and even the maxi dress that is wildly popular right now. This makes the choice of fabrics endless. Batik rayon is gaining popularity with a few of our favorite favorite fabric companies.
5) Solid color tunics lend themselves to a bit of decoration with ribbons, beads, or to show off that gorgeous necklace you’ve had waiting for a special occasion. Solid silks give the tunic high fashion appeal, think weddings; and the our favorite cotton solids (Kona, Michael Miller, Moda) are fab for every day wear. Think of all the possibilities for quilt show. Oh and hand stitching/hand embroidery is way popular think about adding some to create a personalized look.
6) They’re bringing plaid back! Oh my goodness, it works so well. Two different plaids working together for the good of the tunic. In this case a lighter plaid near the face and a deeper one below. Trés Chic!
7) Last, but certainly not least the directions. Yep, the directions are pretty cool with illustrations that complement the directions well.
8) We said seven but there’s always room for one more. A lot of quilters make garments and this is a great book and pattern to add to the library.
