My Cozy Village – 9 Quilt Blocks to Appliqué & Embroidery by Felicia Brenoe C&T Publishing $17.95
Hand or machine? That is the question! or. . . perhaps the question is which one do I start first. And when?! My Cozy Village is a sweet pattern book that will leave your creative juices flowing and your fingers itching to stitch some houses of your own.
That Felicia offers both hand and machine options, as well as different fabric options makes My Cozy Village even more endearing.
Each 16″ square block has the potential to be an individual portrait, representative of the home in which the maker lives. Imagine creating a village that looks like your home town.
Felicia opens the door to texture, color, and technique too. Her use of Daiwabo fabrics give the patterns a bit of a vintage feel. Don’t miss Blooming Village which shows the option of fun and kitschy and the use of your stash. How fun is that?
Of course there’s an opportunity to win a copy of My Cozy Village, simply tell us if you’ve ever appliqued by hand or machine or if applique is something that you’re almost ready to try. A US winner will receive a hard copy, an International winner will receive a digital copy. We’ll draw a winner on Tuesday March 22.
And there are more stops along the blog tour and more chances to win:

I applique both by hand and machine and love both equally. I am fairly new at applique as piecing is my first love but applique is catching up quickly.
Love the look of these patterns! The buildings are so cute! I have done traditional Applique! Would love to try these beauties!
I have appliqued by hand and by machine. I would LOVE to win a copy of this book. The patterns are fantabulous!!
I have done both hand and machine applique over the years. I mostly did handwork on small pieces, and saved the machine work for very large appliqued quilts. My eyes are a little old for tiny work now, so I tend towards the machine if I do any applique.
I have done both hand & machine appliqué & enjoy both methods depending on the project….. adds so much to a quilt top!!!
I have tried hand applique and really liked it. I think it takes longer tho, so I mostly machine appliqué. quigleyfran@sbcglobal.net

My hand applique is not so great so I go with machine, much better. Just finished Emily’s Garden.
I have done both hand & machine applique but now that I can do a buttonhole stitch I only use that method.
I am ready to appliqué.
I applique by machine, either my sewing machine or my longarm.
I’ve tried machine applique, and wool applique, and would love to learn how to do needle turn applique. I’ve heard that if you can attach a binding, you’ve already learned the basics of needle-turn, so I’m about ready to give it a try.
While I’ve appliqued by hand and by machine, I pretty much only do machine applique these days if I want to have any hope of getting a project done in a reasonable amount of time. My hand applique looks nice but takes too long.
I love to applique, but I do it all by hand. It’s very relaxing and makes a great take along project.
I have appliqued by machine, but it is some time ago. This pattern is lovely, maybe I should try again?
I love hand appliqué, my favourite method is using freezer paper and starch for a nice clean edge.
I’ve done a bit of machine appliqué but prefer hand. I also do wool appliqué.
I do only machine applique and I really like to make some of those houses…thank you…marta
COMMENT #18
I’ve appliqued by machine more than once. I’ve been shown how to hand applique and tried it, but my eyes are not up to the task!
I have done alot of machine applique, and now I think I am ready to try hand applique. These buildings look challenging!
Yes, I’ve tried both hand and machine appliqué. I actually took Russ Horne’s appliqué workshop and loved it. I’m currently recovering from wrist fusion surgery, so not quite ready to start again, but am planning for future projects.
I hand applique, but never anything with such detail as these blocks. But aren’t they fabulous? Thanks for offering the giveaway.
I have done applique by hand–looking forward to more!
I have appliqued both by hand and by machine. Due to the time it takes to hand sew, I prefer to applique with my machine. I can get a great look in much less time! The quilting on Felicia’s blocks in gorgeous!
I have done hand applique and love it…BUT now with the wonderful sewing/embroidery machines we have…I am now in to doing it all on my machine!!!
I’ve tried applique by hand, but I’m not very good at it yet. Hoping to improve my skills. This would be just the thing to do that. Thanks!
LOVE hand applique! I find it very relaxing.
I haven’t appliqued yet, but I have been thinking of giving it a try. Most of my work has been piecing so far. The pictures of those blocks are so cute, it is very tempting.
I have done both hand and machine applique. It depends on what the quilt will be used for as to which method I would choose to do. I do love to do hand qpplique. kellam.susan@yahoo.com
COMMENT #29
I’ve appliqued by machine and LOVE it!
I machine appliqué. I would like to hand applique, but am afraid it would become a permanent UFO if it takes too long…
COMMENT #31
I have tried machine applique but have hand applique on my list of skills to learn this year. Embellishing the blocks would be great fun. Just think of all the embroidery stitches you could use.
I began appliqueing by hand and machine on my daughter’s clothes when she was a toddler. My current project is appliques on a quilt for her and her husband; she’s 44 now.
I enjoy appliqueing. I usually do needle turn applique. My last two quilts have been fusible applique and then stitched with my machines decorative stitches. I may convert to the machine, after I see how it goes in the laundry. Thank you for the inspiration.
I prefer hand applique for my projects.
I have appliqued by hand and am still learning how to make it turn out pretty and smooth. I have tried by machine but didn’t like it.
