Some of you may recall that when we launched in print in 2012, we published four issues a year. In 2013, we expanded to six issues, a schedule that can only be described as fast and furious. It’s particularly amazing because logistically our staff members span the country from sea to shining sea, with stops in the heartland, and purple mountains (majesty). We span every U.S. time zone, seeing each other face-to-face twice a year at Quilt Market. Let’s just say arranging our weekly staff conference call is a scheduling dance.
It’s been a more-than-vigorous pace, and we’ve been inspired to keep up with it because we are delighted to be a part of your creative, quilty lives. We also know you are delirious to have us every other month, too, but, well, we need to talk. It’s us, not you. Producing six issues a year leaves us no time to expand our creative madness. (And we do have some serious creative combustion at those weekly edit conference calls.)
You know how some kids say, “Wanna see how high I can jump?” Well, that’s us. As an indie publisher with a small staff, we don’t have the same resources as a large outfit. In truth, we’ve been frustrated by our lack of time to explore other fun ways to serve you. And boy do we have ideas for product, published patterns, stuff we know you’d enjoy!
Soooo, beginning in 2016, we will publish GenQ four times a year. And we intend to pack those issues with approximately 30% more delicious content and projects. That translates to more blog content, too. We have great fun up our quilty sleeves, including some great articles by some really cool creative people. (I’ve got goosebumps just thinking about it!)
Some of our madness includes a new quilt along–the year-long Patchwork Almanac designed by our very own Scott Hansen. We sneak-peeked it in the December issue of Stashed!, our free reader e-newsletter. (What, you aren’t signed up yet? Go here to find out more. Free patterns, giveaways and real news in every issue.)We’ll share more about our Patchwork Almanac Quilt Along after the cover reveal for the next issue, which will be Spring 2016, on-sale in early February. If you have a subscription (for which we are very grateful!), don’t fret. We will roll six-issue subscriptions ahead by a half-year so that you get the full value of your purchase. If you have questions, please contact Publisher Jake Finch at jake@generationqmagazine.com.
Not everything is changing, though. Our popular 7″ by 9″ format? Staying the same. We like the size too. Anything else you like, or want us to improve upon, contact Melissa Thompson Maher at melissa@generationqmagazine.com. We really love hearing from you!
Thank you for your loyalty to our little magazine. Your enthusiasm for GenQ is our inspiration. We couldn’t do any of this without you!

I look forward to seeing the new issue and with it being published 4 times a year with this bring a bigger magazine or will be the same…

I’m a first-time subscriber. Four issues instead of the anticipated six is a bit disappointing, but let’s see what you can do. Make me love you more.

I think 4 issues a year will be swell – and it would be great for y’all to get a bit of downtime now & again!! Thanks for all the wonderful work you’ve been doing!
