Stitch ‘N Swap Blog Party!

by teri on April 24, 2014

Here at Generation Q Magazine, we’re all about community. We know that without our community, we would not still be here, against all the odds, continuing to play with you. You make it fun for us to do what we do: playing with fabric and sharing our findings and creativity with you.
That’s what our first book is all about: community and creativity. Stitch ‘n Swap is a collection of fun, stylish sewn projects designed to be made quickly and shared completely. This book brings together some of the best designing talent in our q-niverse today, including some of our very own GenQ peeps with whom we snuggle with every day.
It’s not just about the projects, though. Stitch ‘n Swap is designed to be a resource for anyone interested in hosting or participating in a swap. Whether online or in real time, swaps are a perfect way to foster your circle of like-minded stitchers. A good swap can challenge you to stretch your creative muscles and serves as an easy lesson to prove that giving and receiving are delightful experiences.
Take the ideas from this book and make them your own. Entice others to join you in a creative swap. Then you and your friends can conquer your world.

Oh, and celebrate with us, as we launch a series of blog parties about Stitch ‘n Swap with many of the designers who contributed to the book. You’ll see a list below…don’t hesitate to visit your faves, or find a new designer you hadn’t heard about before! And of course, there will be giveaways. Details on our fellow blog party participants and the giveaway scheme are below.

Next week, as the parties roll out, we’ll have another perfect stitch-and-swap project for you. Our very own Scott Hansen made two different sets of place mats and a table runner for the book. Space only allowed one to be published, so we snapped up the other version to share with you. Here’s a tease: It’s a table runner named Chow Time and it’s the perfect complement to almost every casual table setting.

-Jake, Melissa and the GenQ Crew

About the book: Stitch ‘n Swap releases May 19, 2014. It has 112 pages filled with 25 projects from amazing designers and get this–it’s only $17.95. Pre-order now through C & T Publishing, or beginning May 1, from our website.

About the party list: Join the festivities! Over the next 3 weeks, our fellow contributors will be sharing their favorite bits of the book, tips on hosting a Stitch ‘n Swap or other glimmers about their design process.

Blog Party week 1: Jeni Baker, Anne Deister, Emily Herrick, Sam Hunter, Lynn Kraus

Blog Party week 3: Jake Finch, Scott Hansen (Blue Nickel Studios) , Karen Cunagin, Michelle Freedman, Linda Hansen, Kevin Kosbab, Melissa Peda

About the giveaway: We’re giving away three copies of the book to winners drawn randomly from commenting on THIS post. If you live in the U.S., you’ll win a hard copy of the book. If you live outside the U.S., you’ll get a digital version. How cool is that? We’ll hit the ol’ Random Number Generator on Thursday, May 8, to choose the lucky stitchers and announce the winners noonish New York time.

I have never participated in a swap because I have no skills, but I love seeing what other people do. I do have skills, but I can’t stitch a straight line and as much as I love to make things even my grandchildren cann see the flaws.

I have participated in 6 swaps. I received several small pins from around the world but mostly it is some of the friends I have made that will last for a longtime!
I am currently awaiting for the blocks to arrive from the last swap. Due to the cost of postage in Canada I probably won’t be participating in any more. I have enjoyed these swaps even though there were a few who waited til the last moment to advise that they wouldn’t be able to fill their commitment. Sadly, Most of us had already mailed our blocks!

I participated in only one swap. Sadly, it was at a time when my health took a header and I was quite late in completing my assignment. When the person making something for me never actually did, it was easy for me to be understanding, as my swap partner had been. So, while it wasn’t a huge success in a crafty way, I learned a few things from it. For me, a swap with a deadline is tough, and I might be better at those events in which you bring something and then take something home, so that if I haven’t finished, no one else has to wait.

I have participated in many swaps and enjoyed them all. I’ve had lots of swappers spoil me and go a bit overboard with the extras and goodies. I try to do the same. I like to always make an extra small item to go with the larger item and so I will always make sure I make enough time to make something special. I can’t name one thing that stands out as the best item received, I have been spoiled many times.

My first swap was disappointing but got brave enough to do an online swap just last month. Was thrilled with the projects from my partner. Beautifully sewn and will be keeping to use and enjoy. Apparently she liked what I made also so all was good. Before the second swap we were asked about our level of sewing and other questions and I think that really helped with the swap more than anything. We were also able to email each other about any likes and dislikes. Will do another swap when time allows. Thank you for the chance to win this super book.

I have yet to participate in a swap so I am very curious about the process, designs, and insights. Also, I have yet to win anything so I am not very hopeful I’ll be one of the winners but I still do have some hope. :) The book looks to be quite interesting, judging by the cover alone!

I have been involved in many swaps over the years. I found it stretches my skills and my creativity. You only had to make one block, so challenge yourself!

I have been in several swaps with the guild and within our bee’s…. have gotten several blocks/rows to make wonderful quilts with lots of memories…… we are currently looking for something new, quick and small for our one bee so would love to see the ideas in this book!!!
