Now Touring: Because I Love you Sew Trish Preston

Quilters are a sentimental lot indeed. Memories are important, and keeping those memories wrapped up in cloth especially speaks to our quilterly hearts. Trish Preston of Two Peas in a Pod Designs totally gets this. Her new book, Because I Love you: Sew 17 Handmade Gifts for Everyone in Your Life, is full of great ideas for stitchy gifts where the love put into every stitch is every bit as important as the fabric and thread.

You’ve got to read this in Trish’s own words. She writes:

“I was a new mom to identical twin girls, and
although I hadn’t really sewn many garments before (okay, maybe one), I decided I wanted to sew the dresses for their holy baptism. I wanted to make them myself because I so strongly desired to start creating special keepsakes for both my girls, something that they would give to their kids. And that’s been my heart’s desire when it comes to sewing most everything—to make something special for someone that I love so very much.”

Some of our favorite creations from Trish’s new book include the Family Tree and Twice as Nice Bow Tie (that doubles as a decoration on a girly headband), as well as the Bicycle Basket and Hotty Totty Casserole Carrier.
Here’s another aspect we really enjoyed: Throughout the book, Trish worked closely with her dad, Bill, an engineer. Their individual skills complemented one another quite well. Bill, who also designs kites, is also the mastermind behind many of the projects his sewist wife, Carol, creates. How cool is that? A quilting family!
