Between the Covers! July/August issue

by teri on June 24, 2014

Getting an issue in the mail and on newsstands is pretty much like designing, piecing and quilting a quilt, and we’ve all been there with our hearts firmly and permanently stitched to our sleeves. Each issue is as unique as the quilts featured on the pages inside. Gracing the cover this issue is Ryder, a rather curious, happy-looking pup checking  out the Color Carnival Row-along quilt designed by his mommy, Michelle Freedman. Dare we say “Hot dog?!” It’s a great issue. A few teasers:

* We start by revealing our “no q-bullies” campaign with an editorial thoughtfully written by Jake and Melissa.

* Batiks make a serious appearance with some great discussion and thoughts from a reader poll.

* Kim Niedzwiecki, a stitchin’ Navy veteran, answers the hard questions including how she became the social media and guild donation coordinator for Aurifil Thread.

Wine for quilters, what's your favorite flavor? Check out page 9 . Decisions, decisions.

No issue is complete without a Playdate or well, eight.  A word from Associate Editor Teri:  Playdates can be just that–time to get together with quilters and enjoy some time together. Mix up a pitcher of sangria (hey, there’s a fab recipe for that in Slosh), invite a few friends over, set up stitching and cutting stations and have a bit of fun! This time together leads to fun and frivolity and quilts getting stitched, or not. We help one another get through the tough moments, both quilting and non-quilt related. And please send pics of your Playdate renditions to teri@generationqmagazine.com. We’d love to see them! And we’ll post pics here on the website or on our  Facebook page.

Ah, but back to the new issue…Here’s a sneak peek at the featured designers in Playdates this issue: Stephanie Adams,  Ayumi TakahashiShelly PagliaiMelanie Testa, Tara Faughnan,  Alexia Abegg of Cotton + Steel, Frances Newcombe, who designs for Art Gallery Fabrics, and Konda Luckau  of Moose On The Porch.

Cheryl decorates her quilting space.

Oooh, and here’s a spooky treat: Cheryl Sleboda of muppin.com allow us a glimps into her quilterly quarters. Let’s just say Poe would be proud.

Quilt. Sew. Live. Breathe.

Can I buy this magazine in an e-format? Google Play or Zinio? I’m interested but don’t really have a place to store magazines. Thanks. ~p

I’m so sorry Phoebe. We don’t yet have a workable e-format, but we’re trying to get there. Stay tuned! We’re hoping for early next year.

I can’t wait to get my copy! I’m especially intrigued by the row-along as we’ve been thinking about doing that at my guild. Thanks for all the inspirations!
