You may have noticed that our September/October issue of GenQ currently out on the stands had a lot about embroidery in it. That’s because we’ve seen the increase in popularity with embroidery for several years and we wanted to explore the topic with you all. We know that our Q-bies don’t just make quilts. We love our needles, thread and fabric and there are so many other ways to get our fix. Embroidery is one of those.
But embroidery these days, much like quilting, is not just about handwork. The world of machine embroidery is growing, and fast. As the price of entrée embroidery machines come down and the availability of digitized patterns goes up, we get more to play with.
Joan's beloved pug Penny is proudly modeling our This LIttle Piggy bib. Yep, we grab any model we can around here!
That’s why we’re offering up our first Playdate that uses digitized embroideries in its design.
Lisa Archer and Rhea Lucovsky are the talents behind Pickle Pie Designs, a sewing/quilting pattern company that specializes in digitized patterns. The Piggy Bib uses a very simple embroidery design, which we’ve provided in the download as digitized files. For those of you with an embroidery machine, you should be able to work your way through the attached files. They include the over all bib design, the piggy appliqué and the outline, ears and tail stitching. Just click here to get the PDF and the embroidery files.
BUT, even if you don’t have an embroidery machine, yet, you can still make this adorable bib. The pattern for the bib is on the download, as well as the piggy appliqué. Use a fusible like Steam-A-Seam Lite to fuse the piggy in place on the bib’s front. On your regular sewing machine, statin stitch the appliqué in place, or by hand use a blanket stitch. We’re leaving the ears and tail up to you to add, but we do suggest hand embroidery here.
And this basic pattern is perfect for altering to appliqué innumerable shapes and themes. That way you can make several for a beloved baby in your life!
If you encounter any problems with the downloads (since this is the first time we’ve experimented with this format) please send an email to Melissa@GenerationQMagazine.com and we’ll jump right on the problem. Quilt on, Q-bies!
