Were you wondering what the heck was up with that strange flamingo yesterday? That was Horace, an odd Christmas-themed flamingo…thing that ended up on my doorstep when some neighbors moved away this past summer. I immediately texted a picture to my GenQ cohorts and in the ensuing hilarity we all decided that we would have as much fun with Horace as we possibly could. What else are you going to do with a 2-foot-tall, Christmas flamingo? So you’ll be seeing Horace here whenever we decide to take a day off to recharge our quilty batteries. And who knows? He might show up for other special occasions as well, so keep your eyes peeled.

Scott: “My friend Jennifer Paganelli sent me the link to this beauty of a quilt.
Done in a very traditional pattern, this quilt by Lynn Harris pops with the surprise of the dowdy country mustard backdrop to Jennifer’s fabrics in her typical bright Caribbean palette. Lynn’s site also wow’d me, as did her Flickr page. Talk about a little bit country, a little bit rock and roll. Lynn’s life is hardly that of the typical farm wife image that I grew up with. She’s got game!”
Blog Post of the Week
Melissa and I were on the phone with Scott when he pointed out this blog post showing a great way to make an easy, fast quilt label. She and I both started squealing, we thought the idea was so cool. But I’ll spare you the girly squee and let Scott take over: “Ingenious! There isn’t much more for me to say on this. This idea just wows me for the simplicity and ease of applying a label to a quilt. If only I had made a label earlier is what I am usually thinking during the binding, because by that time, it is usually very last minute and that quilt needs to be somewhere yesterday. But I could add one even as I round that third corner (like this morning). I could get up and go whip out a quickie label. Also by using a 5″ square, one of those plain 10″ layer cake solids will provide 4 labels – sock ‘em, rock ‘em. Yeah, Sandie has a winning idea here in my book!!”

Yep, that’s how I do them too! I always forget to do the label until the very end and this is the quickest way for me! I’ve also run muslin backed with freezer paper through the printer (then heat set with a hot iron) to have a nicer label, especially on quilts that may go in a quilt show. Looks pretty good!
OMG! I share the same problem with not adding labels. This should keep me current with labels.
You have no idea just how talented and crafty Lynn Harris is. Lynn is my “Quilting Angel” and I am very proud to call her my friend.
Many times, when my backing is light enough, I just writing directly on it. This is a nice idea for a more finished look!
