Cuts: A Tasty Treat, Mod Designs, and Art Deco Cool

Nope, we never get enough of this stuff, and we know you don’t either. Here’s a peek at three new collections to whet your appetite for fiber.

Just Desserts by Jenni Calo for Connecting Threads

Connecting Threads, one of our sponsors, is working with outside designers to come up with more contemporary and modern style fabrics. This novelty collection, Just Desserts, makes our tummies rumble! With its retro colors and sweet (sorry) illustrations, we’re seeing these as the perfect bunch of cottons for aprons, casserole carriers, placemats, chef’s hats and more. You get the idea. Remember we’re on our handmade holiday kick, so these really do work for the kitchen lover in our lives. Oh, and did we mention that these run at $5.96 a yard? And yes, they are high-quality quilting cotton. We’re fondling them right now, so we know…

Urban Odyssey by Connecting Threads

Remember we said that Connecting Threads is bringing in more styles? Known for their traditional and repro lines, they are quickly branching into more contemporary and modern style fabrics. Take Urban Odyssey, for instance. Designed in-house, it’s rich in colors and textures, perfect for using in a variety of different quilt styles and sewing projects. We see these bright prints easily tempered with solids and given room to breathe. There are two dozen prints in the collection and on the Connecting Threads website, the swatches are paired with solids and basic prints. Again, the cost is $5.96 a yard.
Gatsby by P&B Textiles

Harking back to the 1920s when life was celebratory and oh-so-manly, Gatsby offers a very masculine collection of prints. We predict, after being at Market, that 2012 will be the Year of the Man for quilting fabrics, ‘cuz we saw so many there. What works about Gatsby is that even though the vibe is guy, it’s also very blendable with other collections. We love the sophisticated patterns and the muted shades of beige, olive, rust and brown. It also comes in a cooler colorway of blues and grays, but we don’t have any to show you. Check out P&B’s website for the other options.

I saw a picture of a quilt titled “Just Desserts” and bought the fabric for it. Now I’ve lost the picture of the quilt and don’t know where to start to make it for the granddaughter that requested it. Where can I find the picture that appeared in the winter 2012 edition of “Connecting Threads”?
