Playdate: Heirloom China Quilt from Dear Stella

by the GenQ Crew on February 1, 2012

We first heard about Dear Stella about a year ago and we eagerly awaited the debut of this new fabric house at International Quilt Market last October. And we weren’t disappointed! The colors are fresh and the patterns exciting. We just loved the variety and how well the different lines complemented each other. It was Quilt Nirvana. So we asked if we could feature an original quilt made from one of the lines and here we have the results made from the Heirloom collection. Thank you, Dear Stella, for your work and for letting us share this with our readers.

Oh, and guess what? The giving just keeps on giving. Tell us what you think about the Heirloom collection below in the comments section and we’ll give away a 15-piece fat quarter stack of Heirloom. Winner will be chosen at random and announced on Saturday’s post. And we’ll notify you by email, so please include your email address when asked. It doesn’t show up on the general comment section but does tell us how to track you down.

Gorgeous! I saw a Dear Stella ad in a print magazine and went to their website IMMEDIATELY! Can’t wait to see it in person.

Thanks for the pattern inspiration. I really like the flow of all these blues together against the white. The florals are especially cute. Some of the fabrics I recently got from the J’adore Stella collection would go really well with these too.

I pinned this on Pinterest. It does make me think of beautiful blue and white china patterns.

It’s quite elegant.

As a former china dinnerware junkie (owning over 8 sets at once!), I absofreakinglutely love this pattern/quilt. It pays wonderful homage to the flow blue/blue willow patterns of yesteryear! Love it! Love it! Love it!

Cheryl Identicon Icon Cheryl February 1, 2012 at 8:58 am

Christen Barber Identicon Icon Christen Barber February 1, 2012 at 9:13 am

Absolutely gorgeous! I just love white and blue – so classic, but I love the modern twist in the pattern!

Leslie C Identicon Icon Leslie C February 1, 2012 at 9:16 am

This collection is beautiful… I am a fan of blue and white – delft china – type colors, and they have not always been easy to come by in quilting fabric. The large areas of white in the quilt really make the blues look so fresh!

Tess Holland Identicon Icon Tess Holland February 1, 2012 at 9:17 am

I love the blue and white color combinations. It reminds me of my mother’s favorite china and the small collection she displayed on the wall in our house as I was growing up, so this really is an Heirloom memory for me!

This collection is heaven. I’m a blue and white lover from way back. Reminds me of antique china, scandinavian designs (clean and crisp), the ocean, and oriental antique kimonos. Just lovely.

I just love this fabric with white! Very nice.

Heather S. Identicon Icon Heather S. February 1, 2012 at 9:34 am

I thought this collection had some beautiful prints when I first saw it, but some were a little dating to blend with what I usually do. This is a beautiful modern way to feature ALL of the prints, and I love it!

Lisa Identicon Icon Lisa February 1, 2012 at 9:59 am

Blue and white looks so fresh together – and I don’t have much blue in my stash. My daughter loves blue so this collection would be perfect in a quilt for her! Thanks for the chance.

Flaun Identicon Icon Flaun February 1, 2012 at 10:06 am

This color of blue was long my favorite color. (I’ve since moved on to a bright green, but I still love blue.) I’m really thrilled to see some new prints in this gorgeous color (the snake print looks fun!).

Sue Identicon Icon Sue February 1, 2012 at 10:18 am

I love blue and white! It reminds me of the Flow Blue china my grandmother collected.

These fabrics would look oh so lovely with my little collection of blue and white china.

Aimee Identicon Icon Aimee February 1, 2012 at 11:30 am

Very nice! Classic, so you can use it traditionally, but it would make for an interesting look in something purely modern, too.

Blue is my favorite color!!!!! Love this quilt and fabric choices!!

Crystal Identicon Icon Crystal February 1, 2012 at 12:45 pm

LOVE this collection! I want to use the same piecing layout and then make an apron out of it. I think it would be fun to use the ‘cutoffs’ to make matching trivets, etc.

I’m so excited about Dear Stella too! The Heirloom collection is just wonderful with its two color focus. Palladium is another favorite of mine. Yum!

Really like these fabrics and the merging of influence from traditional European blue and white china with eastern ikats.
Looking forward to finding these fabrics at my LQS. Thanks for the giveaway.

OMG, I love it! It’s clean, bright and contemporary. I’d love to make a table runner with it to go with my blue and white dishes.

Love the quilt and love the fabric – it reminds me of Delft china – a good thing as it reminds me of my Dutch Oma and Tantes and summers spent in the Netherlands as a child.

Indigo blue & white is sooo amazing – I could envision this in a beach cottage. Now to just get the cottage . . . hmmm, it would look good here in Ohio, too! LOL.

Now perhaps I can finish a pattern I started years ago called Grandmas China!

I don’t normally care much for blue but I really like this collection – especially with the white. Very crisp and clean and modern. I find the modern quilts way more appealing lately.
