Saturday Special: A Tokyo Quilt and a Billboard Quilt-Along

Hey, Q-bies! We just couldn’t leave you hanging with no quilty treats to get you through your weekend, now could we? Every Saturday, we’ll be showing you a Quilt of the Week and sharing a Blog Post of the Week, so you can get your inspirational fix, even as we’re resting up to bring you more great features Monday through Friday.

Quilt of the Week:

We found this beauty while perusing Flickr, and we’ve all been oohing and aahing over it for days now. Apparently an award winner at the 2011 Tokyo Quilt Festival, this quilt embodies so much of what we love about this craft. (Click on the picture to see the original on Flickr.)

Blog Post of the Week:

Elizabeth Hartman of Oh, Fransson! is one of our all-time favorite bloggers and her quilt-alongs never fail to get us inspired. She’s got another one going on right now, creating a message quilt that can be as serious or as whimsical as you desire. And frankly, we love the message she’s chosen for her own! Click here to read Elizabeth’s post.

If you’ve spotted any to-die-for quilts or read something in a blog that made you smile, laugh, think or hug your family, let us know! The blog posts don’t have to be specifically quilt-related, but should be fun, inspirational or otherwise entertaining for us quilty types. Send your links to Megan at megan@generationqmagazine.com.

Ok, that Tokyo award winner is incredible!!! Thanks for sharing it. I always love seeing photos pop up on flickr after the Tokyo festival. The quilts are so uniquely different from what we do over here in N.A., but also the same, know what I mean? I think the thing that always blows me away are the gazillion tiny pieces that get worked into the Japanese quilts, often BY HAND. Holy.

I’m noticing a conspicuous absence of the word verification essay….watch out, here come the comments girls!!! I hope the spam will find it’s way into the bin.
