Identical blocks + different quilters = stitchy madness!

Riddle us this, Q-bies:  What three little words will make quilters stop in their tracks with eyes twitching and teeth gnashing?

Answer: “Quilt as desired.”

To have some fun with this law of the q-niverse, we gave identical blocks to a group of quilters, and in our September-October 2014 issue, we share some of the results. In a recent blog post, we shared some more. ( Go here to see the Original Post.) And now, we’re revealing even more!

We continue this stitchy madness with a couple of really fab quilters, Lisa Calle and Deborah Poole. You might note that Lisa’s quilt appeared in our September-October issue and you would be absolutely correct. Why are we featuring her here? Lisa shot video of her quilting process, giving a whole new learning dimension to her finished work! How cool is this? Pretty darn cool, I’d say. Check it out at the link below.

Next up is Deborah Poole. You can visit her on Pinterest and check out her book, You Can Quilt It, available through Martingale. She had a few things to say about our QAD project:

“First let me say, I was honored to be asked to be a part of this challenge. This was a great project for me because I purchased a new machine at Quilt Market last fall, and due to health issues, I haven’t been able to really get acquainted with it. I’ve only quilted two quilts so far on it. My old machine wouldn’t run fancy threads so this was a great opportunity to use one.
“Unless it’s a show quilt, I’m a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants kinda girl, and don’t usually decide how I’m going to quilt something until it’s staring me in the face on the frame. That’s what I did with this block. I put it on and then we stared at each other for a while. I knew right away how I would quilt the star, but the off-set open spaces were a challenge. So I went ahead and quilted the star and let the open space percolate. Once I got the star done, I just knew I wanted to “ghost” it in that large area. If this were a quilt top that had many repeated blocks I think the ghosting would create a great secondary pattern design.

    Okay, my fingers were twitching a bit watching Lisa Calle quilting with HER finger so close to the needle! But wow! What results you’re getting with QAD!
