Cuts: Wearable Art
the GenQ Crew • August 26, 2011 • 1 Comment

Most of us make quilts. Some of us also sew other things, like clothing and home stuff, to strut our creative stuff. So, today’s Cuts are dedicated to those who like to wear their stitched efforts—in skirts, tops, shirts, pants, dresses and other closet essentials. And while we’re all about stitching for our offspring (or our offspring’s offspring), we’re really making it all about YOU with these sophisticated and playful prints. So grab a simple skirt pattern or a fave top and start cutting and sewing. You can model your new look in just hours. Oh, and if you must insist that quilts are the only things you need to sew, these fabrics work great there too!

Bazaar Style by Pat Bravo for Art Gallery Fabrics

Pat Bravo’s incredibly silky cottons are offered up in this spicy Moroccan-inspired collection of teal, purple and gold prints. Just picture the glorious skirts you can whip up with these beauties, which drape perfectly. Pat’s cottons have some of the best hand coming straight off the bolt of any cottons out there. No exaggeration! And these bold and elegant prints are just like Pat herself—delightful, appealing and first-class.

West Indes by Jennifer Paganelli for Free Spirit Fabrics

Jennifer designs her fabrics with clothes hangers in mind. Her newest collection, West Indies, features her distinctive in-your-face flash of strong color worked in more traditional patterns. She spent part of her childhood in the Caribbean, so her yummy color choices are so-authentic. They’ll make your wardrobe purr with pleasure. If you’re seriously at a loss for what to make with these, check out Jennifer’s blog for ideas. She does an awesome job of highlighting her patterns and fabrics.

Color Story: Citron & Gray by Michael Miller Fabrics

At Spring Market a few months ago, founding co-partner Kathy Miller presented the company’s upcoming designer and in-house collections, which were all organized around color stories. Kathy said this year would be all about the color story, and boy, was she right! The luscious Citron & Gray is one of several Color Story collections Michael Miller recently released, and it’s one of our personal faves. The colors are so hip, so now. But more than that, we LOVE the simple, graphic prints that seem all the more modern in these colors.  Tell us some more Color Stories, we say, ‘cuz we can see them worked up in great wardrobe basics: straight skirts, men’s shirts, cute shorts and more.

Delicious! I do see some dresses (and perhaps a skirt) in there…
