Now Touring: New York Beauties & Flying Geese

tracy • May 07, 2017 • 55 Comments

It was at Quilt Market that I had the pleasure of meeting Carl Hentsch where I found him to be quiet, polite and unassuming. Then I ran into him at another Quilt Market–which city I have no idea–but he reached into his messenger bag and pulled out a copy of his book Amish-Inspired Quilts for Today’s Home: 10 Brilliant Patchwork Quilts ( C&T/Kansas City Star, Sept. 2015, 96 pages) for me to review.

Days later, I brought the book to my daughter’s school because we had to get to a concert an hour early to get seats in the tiny gym. Pulling out the book, I began reading it so I could start my review. My husband looked over my shoulder and said, “Wow, that quilt is really nice!” I agreed and kept reading. A few pages later, my husband again looked over my should, but this time leaned over to get his face right up to the pages.

“Look at how he used that stripe!” he said. “And wow! It really looks great up agaisnt this fabric here. He has great color sense!”

I kid you not. My husband was full on gushing. Over a quilting book. And he’s not a quilter.

Yeah, Carl is just that good.

So, fast forward to last fall when I run into Carl once again at Quilt Market (oh yes, Dear Carl. We will always have Quilt Market!), and he asks if I might be interested in joining his blog hop for a book that will be released this year. Like he even had to ask! I jumped, several times, at the chance. I didn’t even need a peek or a hint about what was going into it. I just knew it would be good. Carl did not disappoint.

Carl has a fantastic sense of color and advanced piecing skills. However, this should not scare away you newbie quilters. This book is a book that even though I was given a digital copy of the book, I am going to purchase my own personal version to keep as a reference. This one is a keeper!

From super feminine.

To nicely masculine.

To super colorful.

To this muted beauty…

Carl offers elegant quilts, fantastic instructions for paper piecing and construction, and enough information to tackle these complex quilts with confidence.

Start with a pillow or two…

And work your way up to a masterpiece. Carl will hold your hand along the way.

We’re giving away a copy of Carl’s book to one lucky reader. Simply leave a comment below telling us why you would like to win this book and we will draw a name on Friday. For more chances to win, please visit some of the other bloggers on this tour!
