“Hello” is such a word of possibilities. And when Susan Emory of Swirly Girls said recently, “Hello! Would you participate in the blog tour for my new fabric line?” Our response: “Hello, yes!” Then Susan asked what prints we wanted her to send so we could play around and make a quilt for her booth at Fall Quilt Market.
Well, that’s more complicated because, winging it is always an option and these delicious new prints were being shipped to the one someone on staff who likes surprises. We are pleased to introduce you to at least part of Hello! designed by Susan Emory of Swirly Girls for Michael Miller Fabrics:
Our staffer (moi) then added solids because she wanted the quilt to have a wee nip of a modern feel.
Then I started making flying geese using Kari Carr’s Clearly Perfect Angle.
This is a must-have tool for stitching half-square triangles, flying geese and and any block that stitches a square onto something else. And voila! all the flying geese units were finished lickety-split!
After stitching all those geese, I realized that flying geese are brats, so I tried to corral them by attaching a square. Pfft! That didn’t work well enough, so I gave the geese a wedgie. (Because one must give geese a wedgie.) To give a goose a wedgie, cut a 1 1/2” strip, and stitch it onto the goose patch, then trim it on alternating angles.
Then I took the main print, Hello, and cut it up like old magazines and created the hashtag #quiltsrule. We fused them using Barely There fusible web. Like a really well-fitting foundation garment (bra, we mean bra), it really is barely there, and fuses well, leaving the fabric really flexible.
Oh, I pieced a few more things and then just used my mad skills to add some fun quilting. (In my younger days, I always was good at mirror writing for secret messages….does anybody do that anymore? anyone?”
GenQ was not the only bunch to get some play time with Hello! Here’s the rest of the blog line-up:

Give a goose a wedgie?? LOL! Every goose needs one once in a while! Those ransom letters in the Hello collection are a must have and there are so many ways to creatively use them! What a genius design! So glad you added a few solids as they really make the other fabrics pop. Love this!
