We are so happy to be a part of the MODKID Summer Fun Blog Tour! When MODKID founder and designer Patty Young asked us to review her new booklet with seven adorable patterns for 18-inch dolls, I jumped at the chance. The projects are all items for the summer, so you have time to make something for the 18-inch doll in your life to use right away. We know she needs shorts, a bathing suit, cover-up or tote bag for all the summer fun that is about to happen.
My Daughter and GenQ junior editor, Cyd, is absolutely obsessed with her American Girl and I love making things for Cyd, so this is a win-win!
See, I love toys like American Girl. They cost a bit more, but the quality is fantastic. I LOVE toys that have lots of “extras” to buy because a small purchase every few months keeps that toy fresh and gives them reason to play with it again. I have three kids, so you’d think I have plenty of practice buying toys. However, it honestly took me awhile to learn that I could spend money on some trendy toy they would play with it for a short while and then it would never get played with again. A good doll or some Legos…now these are the classic toys that have longevity!
Because I sew, I have made Cyd some things for her doll over the years. It is a quick project for me to whip up in just a few hours at most. Cyd loves to help pick out the fabrics so the item is just what she wants! So when this pattern booklet arrived, I just handed the whole book over and asked Cyd to pick something. She chose the Sleeping Bag and Pillow.
I had been saving some mini-prints from Timeless Treasures to use for her AG. I love using the tiny prints to play along with the size of the doll. Cyd has been waiting to use that sushi print forever!
This project was very easy and very quick! I loved the illustrations that made it super-easy to understand how to lay out the fabrics, trim the pieces and then sew it together. I wanted to make sure the layers were stitched together because it will be played with a lot! I just eyeballed the quilting lines and stitched it together. Super-quick and a lot of fun to make!
The rest of the patterns are just so cute that I want you other AG “grandparents” to have your very own copy! Leave a comment on this post telling us about your fave doll to be entered to win a copy of MODKID Summer Fun. U.S. stitchers can choose a printed or digital copy of the pattern. Folks outside the U.S. will receive a digital version. We will choose a winner on April 11. And hey, follow the blog tour for more chances to win over the next few days!
