GenQ's 2012 Addicted Stitcher Survey

melissa • November 14, 2012 • 12 Comments

We last poked and probed into your fabricky lives in late 2011, with our GenQ Modern Quilters Survey.  And now it’s time to do it again. We’d like to count noses, pins, rotary cutters, whatever it takes to grab a detailed snapshot of this niche in the sewing and crafting world.

You’ll notice a few changes in this new, improved survey version. First, we swapped in a new name to more clearly define just who we all are and what we do. Plus a whole lotta things lately are getting named “Modern this” and “Modern that,” so we decided to cut to the chase and avoid confusion.

Some of you have pained expressions, and you’re probably sighing with annoyance at yet another attempt for the corporate q-niverse to stick its demographic-hungry noses into stuff that just isn’t its business. Well, um, that’s the point. We ARE its business. In late 2011, when GenQ launched the first-ever survey of the modern quilting/sewing niche, we were still trying to prove to the world that we–you and us–existed. Everyone was buzzing about finding the younger quilter, and they wanted some cold, hard facts. With your survey responses, we were able to tell ’em. (Thank you again for helping make that survey a success.) And once this survey runs its course, we’ll be able to show how much our niche has grown.

The quest for info, though, doesn’t end with just a head count. The companies that serve us by providing new fabrics, tools, equipment and notions also need to know how we live our stitchy lives so they can provide us with what we need and want. And here at GenQ, well, do you really need us to spell out how helpful this info is, when it comes to giving you the kind of content and projects you enjoy most? It’s all for you, baby.

Please PLEASE take a few minutes to whip through the survey (it’s shorter this year) and tell us all about yourselves. And there could be swag in it for you. The survey will be live until the end of the December 2012, and on Jan. 1, 2013, we’ll choose FIVE lucky survey-takers who will each receive a box of fabric, books and small stitchy goodies valued at $50.

Just use this link to find your way to our 2012 Addicted Stitcher Survey. And please freely post it far and wide, encouraging your friends and sew-pals to also participate! Thank you so much for being a part of this second annual survey!

Stand up and be counted!

Intersting survey, but you should have put all of the abopve as one of the choices for the multiple answer questions.

I have tried several times to complete your survey, but it will not allow me to progress beyond question 13. No matter which selection I make under question 14, I get a red notice asking me to enter a positive number. It will not allow me to continue the survey.

Lenore, I’m stumped. All I can think is maybe you accidentally have some weird toggle flipped on your number pad? We’ve checked the survey structure in SurveyMonkey and can’t find any explanation for this. Maybe try logging on from another computer, and attempting it there? Thanks for trying, and sorry for the frustration and inconvenience.

Ummmm, your survey won’t let me enter “0” or its equivalent (leave blank) in where I spend my money……

Helen, We’ve had one other person report a problem with this question (I think it’s No. 14?) and we do not know what’s going on. We have had almost 400 people able to answer that one and move on, though. Only two thoughts occur–might be the number lock key or shift key on your keyboard that is in play without your knowing it, or you might try logging on from another computer and trying to complete the survey.
So sorry for the frustration and inconvenience!

I tried filling out the Q, but also get the comment at Q14 that I am not entering a positive number. Nothing wrong with my computer, so sorry.

Be sure that you have only entered numbers and not any periods or percentage signs or any other type of character. That question tends to get hung up if you type anything other than a number. Let us know if that helps!

Hi – great posts – entertaining, useful, and well-written. Do you have the results from the 2012 Addicted Stitcher Survey posted on your site? If so, I missed it and I’d love to see it.

    Thanks!
