Block Builders that might have been…..

In our May June 2014 issue, we presented you with our top five favorite entries to our Block Builder feature in every issue. We thought you might like to see just how hard it is for us to pick and choose just five. (That is our maximum, some issues we only have room for two or three winners)

The starting block for everyone was this one:

And in this round we had a lot of people enter more than once because they used our handy little work playsheet from our Play With Us tab.

Ann Haley who sent in her winning entry Perspective also sent us this great “solution.” She called this one Zoning. Ann said,  “I thought the lines in the starter sketch could be parallel parking spots. Fortunately, there aren’t too many parallel parking spots where I live. I can never pull into one correctly if anyone is waiting or watching. Honestly, I’m great at it when no one is around.  🙂  “

Ann Haley's Zoning.

Mr. Jan Briggs took TWO copies of the Playsheet to wait for an appointment. Luckily for us, that was a long wait because besides his winning entry,  Square Peg Round Hole, he sent in these.  See why it is sometimes hard for us to pick just one? Also take note that this Block Builder exercise is good for your daily life. Jan avoided causing bodily harm while he was kept waiting forever by entertaining himself with these addictive little Playsheets.  He even took some sheets to the elementary art class he teaches for the students to play with.  We picked one of these to be a winner. It was NOT easy!

Jan Briggs sent us this dozen of entries to sift through! Sheer torture!

Another winner in this round also sent in multiple entries. Gail Weiss from Portland sent us these six Modern Beauties she created by challenging herself using the Playsheet as a skill-building exercise. Can you guess which one we picked?

Here are Gail's entries. One of these won, can you guess which one?

And there were entries besides these as well. Our Playsheets make the fun pretty easy to take along while running errands, like Jan did, or just sitting at your computer like Gail as an Illustrator Pro. We will have a new sheet available soon. Our next starter block looks like this:

Go ahead have a go at it. The deadline for this is round is June 15. You certainly can’t lose anything. And if you are stuck waiting in a waiting room somewhere, then you can even prevent losing your patience, and possibly even win a little bit of fame on the pages of GenQ.
