Saturday Special: A Little Brit & A Little Thought

by Scott on August 4, 2012

Quilt of the Week:

At the risk of being TOO timely, this Union Jack quilt by Amy Smart was finished JUST in time for the Olympics in London.  And we can’t get enough Britannia lately, can we?  (Also see Diamond Jubilee, Royal Wedding, Colin Firth, Spice Girl Reunion, etc.)  And like Amy, we just can’t get enough national pride going on.  Even more recently, she added this post celebrating reinterpreted flags and the Olympics.  Can we also just add that danged photography does so much to capture the beauty of  a quilt!  Isn’t Amy’s photo almost as much of a summer treasure as her quilt?

Post of the Week:

And this week’s post that really wowed us is by Jacquie Gering of Tallgrass Prairie Studio,  is all about how finding one’s voice as a quilt designer, and what her process evolution has been since she began quilting five years ago. Let’s just say that what Jacquie’s learned and accomplished in a mere five years leaves many of our stitchy efforts in the dust. We are in awe of her architectural style and love her crisp, but playful, sense of color. And she makes us think outside of the box or log cabin as it were. Total package!
