Saturday Special: A Fun Organizer and a Zig Zag Doll Quilt

by Scott on January 7, 2012

Blog Post of the Week

Okay so this post has nothing to do with an actual quilt, but it does involve a little bit of fabric. And since it’s January, it’s a timely reminder of that re-organizing thing we all WANT to do. I love the way that Sandi saw such great potential for an extreme diamond-in-the-rough. Her project makes me want to go out and build one from scratch. In my spare time of course. Although if I were making this from scratch, I think I would use four empty spools (presumably all the same size) for the feet. Wouldn’t that be fun?

Quilt of the Week

These two pictures show a fun little doll quilt by Jenn Grigoryev:

Jenn mentions it a bit at the end of her post in her blog here.

I was intrigued by the closeup picture with the floss and then I found the whole quilt photo next to it on Jenn’s Flickr page. Super easy layout and such a nice variation of the many zigzag quilts popping up everywhere. Using the floss in a utility quilting manner is my kind of hand quilting. I just never have time or the inclination to do traditional tiny quilting. Or the skill for that matter. I love the country feel of the big stitches with the modern palette here.

Cool lightning zig zag DQ – and the big stitch quilting is perfect for it!
Have to say, I rarely find anything fun like that organizer when I go to thrift stores or garage sales – thanks for finding these good things for us!!!
