Are you stitching this weekend, or packing in a last blast of family fun before Labor Day rings in the “official “ end of summer? Or maybe it’s yard work or a must-do household project….whatever, DO enjoy the extra day of bliss. And if you can’t get to your sewing space, we’ll give you a stitchy fix to stave off withdrawal, with our special blog and quilt picks of the week. Quilt forth, sweet pea!
Quilt of the week….
The quilty treat today comes from GenQ staffer and humorist Megan Dougherty (aka The Bitchy Stitcher), who is captivated by Kit Lang’s quilt, Of the Moment. Check out Kit’s blog to learn more, but here’s why it caught Megan’s eye:
“I am fascinated by this quilt because, although it definitely has an improvisational feel to it, it also seems meticulously planned and executed. Inspired by the color palette from an under-the-sea illustration on a sketchbook cover, this quilt uses only three colors, yet the composition gives it a lot of depth and interest,” Megan says. “I am now inspired to start looking into using silk, as Kit does, for my own quilts.”
Blog post of the week
Our Scott Hansen, also of Blue Nickel Studios, reaches out to Film in the Fridge for his “most inspiring blog post” this week, where blogger Ashley talks about how a past family vacay inspired a new design.
“What I love about this post is partly the photography of the quilt on the hill in the wind. Ashley always seems to get magical compositions for her photos!” he says. “Love the wind, the blue sky, the green grass. And the photo for the inspiration of this quilt really kicked it for me…the cornrow “camping hair,” and the actual beach towel that inspired the quilt’s basic concept, yet looks so completely different. This blog really should be on your list…it’s always top notch!”
Got a quilt or blog post candidate that captures the GenQ vibe? Then nominate it for one of our picks of the week! Just shoot an e-mail to Scott at email@example.com and tell him all about it!
